MSSA Events for the 2019-20 Season

  • The Prairie Challenge (formerly Manitoba Open Short Track Championships
    • Mission: This event will focus on competitive events that are used at the national level, such as Can West, WEC, Canada Winter Games and Canadian Junior Championships.

      This event will be an open format with modified/grouped age categories as described below.  The spirit of this event is to strengthen the competitiveness and bond between Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

      Date: December 21st and 22nd, 2019.  With Open training times on December 20th from 5-8pm

      Location:  Stride Place, Portage la Prairie (under 5 hour drive from Regina)

      Information: This competition will use the following age Category format, separated based on gender unless the combined registration numbers of that category do not exceed 12, in which case the category will be mixed gender:

      • U11 Female – Between the ages of 6 and 10 as of July 1st, 2019
      • U12 Male - Between the ages of 6 and 11 as of July 1st, 2019
      • T2T Female – Between the ages of 11 and 14 as of July 1st, 2019
      • T2T Male – Between the ages of 12 and 15 as of July 1st, 2019
      • Open Female – Over the age of 14 as of July 1st, 2019 and minimum 500m time of 54 seconds
      • Open Male – Over the age of 15 as of July 1st, 2019 and minimum 500m time of 51 seconds

      Note: a maximum of 24 skaters per age category will be accepted.  First come first serve.


      • U11F and U12M ( 100m Track)
        • Day 1: 800m, 200m
        • Day 2: 400m, 1500m
      • T2TF and T2TM (100m Track)
        • Day 1: 1500m, 200mP, 200m
        • Day 2: 400m, 3000m Points Race
      • U20 (111m Track)
        • Day 1: 500m, 1500m
        • Day 2: 1000m, 3000m Points Race


      Points:  Points will be awarded per distance and per age category, with individual distance and overall age category medals awarded.  All the points earned by Saskatchewan skaters will be tallied and compared to all the points earned by Manitoba skaters to crown the Provincial Prairie Challenge winner.
